The program costs you nothing (it is paid for by the companies which sponsor the site) and you do not need to register. In 2002 the project funded 47,919,670 cups (about 2,717 metric tons) of food.

For the 2003 end-of-year holiday season, the project has set a goal of funding 6 million cups (1,419 cubic meters) of food in 6 weeks. As of December 5, it has funded 1 million cups (236 cubic meters).
