The
electric sheep project uses an
xscreensaver module to display an animated fractal flame while rendering
frames for the next animation. It is designed for users with with
high-bandwidth, always-on Internet connections. It doesn't seem to work
through firewalls. Beta version 2.7b10 is available for Windows as of
September 9, 2008. Beta version 2.7b9 is available for Linux. See the
project's download
page for information about the latest applications and versions. Users behind
a firewall will have to configure the firewall to allow port 8080 in order to
use the client.

Render images for computer-animated movies in
Internet Movie Project. The project is an
open-source collaboration of volunteers and is just for fun. It is still
in the development phase, but you can volunteer to be a "render-farmer," to
render images for test animation sequences. Anyone who can run the free
POV-Ray ray-tracing program can join this
project, although the supporting scripts and software needed for the project
only work on the Windows and Linux platforms for now.
The project released its first general-release distributed rendering client along with a live job, on November 12, 2001. It is releasing live jobs frequently as of June, 2003, to test and further develop the system.
Job #37 (300 frames) was completed in March, 2004. See information and movies for past projects on the job status page. Version 0.67 of the IMPFarm client is available for Windows and Linux as of October 24, 2006. To use the client, register on the project website and supply that userid and password to the client when you install the client. Join the project's IRC Channel to chat in realtime (Network: irc.newnet.net, channel: #IMP (or if you don't have an IRC client you can use the newnet web chat at http://www.newnet.net/jirc/chatme.html. Just type /join #IMP in the text box and press Enter.)) |

Help RenderFarm@Home render graphical images and animations. Note: the project website is unavailable as of December 1, 2007. The project may have ended. The project uses a BOINC-based client. See the BOINC platform information for the latest version of the BOINC client. Version 5.05 of the Persistence of Vision Raytracer client is available for Windows as of September 24, 2006. Note that the project changed its URL in late April, 2007. Participants who attached their BOINC client to the old URL should attach to the new URL http://www.renderfarmathome.com.ar/. BURP
the Big and Ugly Rednering Project, is a
BOINC-based project which renders
three-dimensional animations. The project is in alpha stage. It is rendering
animations as it is developed and tested. Completed sessions may be downloaded
from the session gallery.
The project uses the BOINC computing platform to run various applications. See the BOINC platform information for the latest version of the BOINC client. Version 4.56 of the Blender application is available for Windows and Linux as of October 8, 2007. As of August 19, 2005, project participants can register their server to become a BURP mirror to help distribute the load of transfering input files, movie files, application files, and other project-related files.
