Twin Prime Search and BOINC now joined under PrimeGrid

Postby jasong » Mon Nov 27, 2006 9:26 pm

For those of you who both love BOINC and math projects, I'd like to tell you about a new(well, new to BOINC) project searching for a twin prime. The sub-project is in beta, and there isn't yet a way to guarantee only searching for twin primes, but the work units are incredibly short, especially if you have a Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, or a P4(or it's "children").

We are basically using the formula k*2^n+/-1 and, while keeping n fixed at 195,000, we are slowed progressing through ks that don't have a "small" factor.

Anybody who wants to join in, the website is http://www.primegrid.com/ and so is the link to join via BOINC.

Happy crunching.

Well, LLR aplication is already available on RieselSieve since 19th of this month. RS has version is 5.15 and not 5.04 (as on PrimeGrid).

Are they similar? How much similar? Or perhpas identical?
(both are beta and user profile has to be changed in order to participate).

Honza,

They're the same - it's just that LLR is in its 15th version at RS, while at PG it's their third. Each time something changes in BOINC the version # has to be incremented. The LLR app was tested first at RS, so more versions there. Other than that, they're essentially the same application & wrapper.

The two projects are looking for different numbers, however.
