Happy New Year from me and the rest of the staff here at Riesel Sieve. In this next year I can only hope we are as successful as we were in 2005. In 2005 we made great progress on all fronts. May 2006 bring many primes.

First LLRNet result was returned just 16 seconds after midnight by none other than Mackerel. 384539*2^2009872-1 was found NOT prime. I'm sure we will see several hundred thousand results like this over the next year but hopefully we will see more than a few brand new and MONSTER sized primes.

Who will find the first prime of 2006? Will it be you?

Yes, I know. A little late for reporting here to the main page, but I was on vacation for the week and away from the servers. 467917*2^1993429-1 is prime at 600088 digits. NICE, NICE, NICE big prime. A Christmas prime at that. Prime Pages verified it in about 24 hours and this marks the 22nd monster prime that we've found as a project since our beginning. Now we just have 73 more primes to go.

We have a new Riesel.dat file ready for download and many of you already have it and sieving away. Also, expect Chuck and Joe O to finally release a new sieve client soon that will help numerous projects just like ours out with speeding up the process of eliminating composite numbers.
