Suggestion for distributed computing incentive

Postby gr8gonzo » Thu Sep 15, 2005 6:47 pm

I have a quick suggestion to throw out there, but no time to read through pages of posts (I'm at work), so forgive me if this is not the proper place for it.

What might provide a good cost-effective incentive for companies/research institutes to explore distributed computing options while at the same time providing an additonal incentive for individual users to take part would be for said company to offer to donate a small amount of money per unit computed to a charitable organization.

That's it. Just wanted to throw this out there while thinking of it.

The main problem is the majority of these projects have limited finance plus an incentive isn't needed in the 1st place many of us happily crunch away in the interest of Science and many also enjoy competing with the credits they recieve

I think, 'serious' tasks are more effectively solved with Grid computing systems. What may be more perspective for home distributed computing systems now, see my topic: http://distributedcomputing.info/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1585.
